Volunteer with Us

We are always on the look out for volunteers and have plenty of opportunities available.

Below are a couple of examples of the volunteering opportunities we offer and for any more information or queries please email info@castrathaven.org

Community Fridge Helper

Additional Information

Do you just hate food waste? Would you like to help redistribute fresh food that would have ended up in landfill?

If so, our Community Fridge project could provide you with the perfect volunteer experience. We will provide full training, including Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.

Key Tasks:
Recording temperatures
Checking food dates and condition
Collecting food from business premises

Daily cleaning of the fridge and freezer

When do we need your help?
The role consists of a range of timings with some volunteers responsible for going around the supermarkets at night to collect food and others in the Eco Hub the following morning overseeing the operation of the Fridge.

Volunteering one or two hours per week could make a huge difference to the success of this project.

You don’t need to be available every week but a regular pattern will help us manage a rota and maintain cover. We welcome volunteers of all ages over 14 for this role.

Remember volunteering demonstrates initiative and is great for your CV. It is an important part of Duke of Edinburgh and other awards too.

Tree Planter

Do you love being outdoors? Do you have gardening skills you’d like to share? Or are you keen to learn new skills in planting trees?

If so – get in touch!

Over the coming months we will be working with local groups, landowners and local residents to increase the number of trees in and around Strathaven

We plant twice a year – in Spring and Autumn.

This will lead to lots of lovely carbon capture and help our community to connect and make new friendships.

We welcome volunteers  of all ages for this role. If you are under 14 years old you will need to be accompanied by a parent/carer.
